Customer Review: Does not grip well

I was very disappointed when I tried to use these pliers - they were unable to grip well enough to loosen the cap nut. They slid around the decorative smooth "nut" instead of turning it. They lack grip leverage and the non-marring plastic does not grab well.
Another Amazon item "General Tools 159 Soft-Jaw Plumbing Pliers" cost a bit more than this set of pliers, but it can get into tighter areas and has a much stronger grip. I got both, but this one is worthless. The General Tools 159 did the job, and this one did not.
This tool is designed to work on "nuts" (decorative chrome caps etc) that are from 1.25 to 2 inches in diameter. The jaw will open a lot wider than 2 inches - but 2 inches is about the max width for a good grip (might work on a 2.5" nut but the jaws would not be parallel). It will also close on items much smaller - possible as small as 1/8" diameter.
The tool is 9.25 inches long and just under 3 inches wide (with jaws fully closed) and 3/8" thick over most of the body. It is made of stamped metal that is a bit over 1/8" thick, maybe 5/32". The tool feels surprisingly solid and strong despite being stamped metal.
The width of the jaws would be a problem in tight spaces - they need at least 1.25" clearance on each side of a "nut" - probably more as you have to open the pliers wider than the nut in order to get them on. And once on, these will not grip strongly.
